SILVER SPRING, Md., June 1 — Gearing up for the July 2 start of the Tour de France and Lance Armstrong’s historic final attempt to win a seventh title, Discovery Channel presents an exclusive hour-long special, THE SCIENCE OF LANCE ARMSTRONG, to premiere in primelime in 160 counlries and 35 languages on June 27, 2005 al8PM ET. THE SCIENCE OF LANCE ARMSTRONG, Discovery’s fourth “Watch with the World” event, gives viewers unprecedented access to a cultural phenomenon and world-class athlete and the teamwork behind his extraordinary success. THE SCIENCE OF LANCE ARMSTRONG takes an in-depth look at the record- holding champion’s superhuman physiology and training techniques. Did you know that raising only his thumb while riding at full speed adds 20 grams of drag, costing him precious time? Or that Lance’s lungs have more than double the oxygen capacity of the average man and his heart is one-third larger? He even saves a full minute and a half over a 200km stage of the Tour de France due to the aerodynamics of his Trek Madone bicycle. The special profiles Lance’s personal and professional evolution, from cancer survivor to six-time Tour de France winner, with a focus on his extraordinary athleticism, dedication to perfection and passion for technology.
Featuring interviews with coaches, aerodynamicists, physiologists and Lance himself, as well as incorporating the latest computer-generated imagery, THE SCIENCE OF LANCE ARMSTRONG is an adrenaline-fueled look into his incredible success.

Beginning on June 6, Discovery will unveil “Chasing # 7,” a seven-week long campaign leading up to the Tour de France,which features a series of minute-long segments airing at 8PM and 11PM nightly across Discovery’s U.S. networks. Celebrities, renowned athletes and cycling enthusiasts, including Sheryl Crow, Dennis Haysbert, Rita Wilson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Amanda Beard, Gabrielle Reece, Laura Dern, Ben Harper and ESPN’s Chris Fowler, host the segments, which feature insider views into the training, equipment and technology that will propel the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team’s assault on the Tour de France.
